She is what’s called a cordwainer, a shoe artisan who does it all from scratch, creating shoes that are made-to-measure, entirely constructed by hand, and custom fitted. But the heeled sandal (right) was technically much more difficult, requiring minute calculations of the position of the straps to fit the foot (and toes) perfectly.ĭaniela not only understands this quandary, she seems particularly well suited to overcome it. The flat sandal (left) with a complicated combination of color and texture is one of the relatively few shoes that Daniela has made for herself.
